“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12).

60 Missionaries Coming to Sano, Japan, This Week

One of the affiliates of Catch The Fire World is a group called Far Flung Tin Can (FFTC), headed by Kyle Phillips (USA). This young man is amazingly led by the Holy Spirit. FFTC regularly brings large groups of people to a mission field and amazing things happen. He is bringing a group of 60–70 people to Japan (March 22–30). They will be based in Sano. I look forward to some amazing testimonies of what the Lord will have done.

Use the Authority!

Many often forget that we are involved in spiritual warfare. It’s why Paul says, “Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might,” and states we wrestle with principalities and powers and spiritual forces of wickedness in high places (Eph. 6:10, 12). The Lord doesn’t want us to be constantly thinking about demons and forces of darkness. He want our lives filled with love, peace, and joy. Philippians 4:8 reads, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

Nevertheless, we need to be alert (“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil…” [1 Pet. 5:8]). I have found in Asia that we need to be particularly alert during certain festivals. For example, in Japan, March 21 is a holiday celebrating the spring equinox. The origin of this holiday, however, has to do with visiting the graveyard and “worshiping” one’s ancestors. Yes, it’s good to honor those in our family line who came before us, but here in Japan it has to do with the idea of ancestors becoming “gods.” So it really is “worship.”

Satan is the king of pride. The reason he rebelled and fell was because he wanted to have first place. He wanted to have the honor and worship that belong to God alone. After Satan fell, he went to work helping man invent various religions and forms of worship. Simply put, when someone worships an idol, or anything that isn’t God, Satan and his demons are there standing hidden behind those idols. They eagerly drink up the “worship.” They are empowered and energized. They become more active. They negatively affect the spiritual atmosphere.

The other day I was speaking at a conference. I noticed that the atmosphere was heavy. I felt hindered. I’m sorry to say that I “overlooked” the obvious reason. The heaviness in the spiritual atmosphere was due to the ongoing Higan festival. The Lord still did some amazing things and there were some remarkable healings. But the meeting was heavier and wasn’t full of the joy of the Lord.

But I was prepared for the next meeting. I made sure to move in extra joy and joyous praise. I made sure to have greater expectations. I led the people in making bolder declarations. It turned out to be an incredible meeting.

In summary, what should we as believers do in these kinds of situations?

  1. Choose to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

  2. Remember that we have authority and not the devil.

  3. Understand the devil’s purpose is to deceive and make us think he has power. He doesn’t. Jesus took it away at the cross. Colossians 2:15 says, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

  4. Praise Him with more joy and exuberance than ever. Read Psalm 150, which commands loud, joyful, exuberant praise.

  5. Fully expect His working of miracles. Let this be a time of great advance.

Thanks for praying,

Ron and Teddy
