“So he answered and said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself’” (Luke 10:27).

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (Deut. 6:5).

The Most Important Thing as We Enter Hebrew Year 5783

Love the Lord with All of Our Being!

I am writing this from Bali, Indonesia, where I am participating in a gathering of Catch the Fire leaders from Asia and around the world. We are having an amazing time, and I look forward to sharing some of the highlights later.

Also, we have just entered into the new Hebrew Year 5783. The Lord wants us to have great anticipation. This year the Lord is taking us—His people, His ekklesia, His church—into a time of great harvest like we’ve never seen before. I also look forward to sharing about this in greater detail at a later time.

What is the most important thing?

Regardless of where we’re at or what we’re doing (or hope to be doing), there is one essential question—what does the Lord want from all of us every day, all the days of our lives? He wants us to love Him. He wants us to love Him deeply.

As the above verses explain, we are to love Him with all our heart. Say, “Thank you, Lord, when I was born again you gave me a heart to love You.” Because without that, it just isn’t within us to be able to love Him.

We are to love Him with all our soul. Our souls need healing and restoration. Thank God for His provision and for the Holy Spirit’s help in the ongoing process of healing our souls.

We are to love Him with all our strength.

And we are to love Him with all our mind.

The good news is that we only have to choose this. As we choose to love Him, then His grace and help enable us to respond to His great love for us that has already been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. In Romans 5:5, we read, “Because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

The more we love God, the better it is for us, for our families, and for the world around us.

Again, greetings from Bali, and let’s continually encourage ourselves and each other to love the Lord with all our heart.

Thanks for praying.

Tishrei—The Seventh Hebrew Month and Beginning of the New Year 5783

Tishrei runs from September 26 to October 25. September 26 is called Rosh Hashanah, which means “head of the year.”

Note the three feasts/special days this month: Blowing of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles. Blowing of Trumpets (or shofars)—a daylong event on Tishrei 1 (Sept. 26)—heralds the new year. The Day of Atonement on Tishrei 10 (Oct. 5) is the one day when all the people were enjoined to fast. Then, we enter the Feast of Tabernacles from Tishrei 15–21 (Oct. 10–16). This feast, which emphasizes living each day in the presence of the Lord, is greatly connected to the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. The more we walk with Him in our daily lives, the more He pours the water of the Holy Spirit over us. (See John 7:37–39; Zech. 14:16–18.)

Also note that the new year is a new beginning that the Lord has been preparing us for during the previous six months. When the Lord set His people free from Egypt, He introduced the “cycle of redemption,” and Nissan became the first month (Exod. 12:1). Every year we go through Passover then Pentecost as a kind of a preparation to help us be ready for the new year, which begins in the seventh month. Each year is a new beginning of walking with the Lord, but on a higher level than the year prior. More information on Tishrei may be found here.
