Kings to Go to War—A Twofold Strategy
1. Join MPP Wednesdays to pray for Ukraine
2. Fasting for three days
Please consider joining us for special prayer for Ukraine, Russia, and Europe during MPP for four Wednesdays (March 23, 30; April 20, 27). My friend and colleague, Dan Slade of Catch the Fire, will join us. Like me, he is also a Canadian of Ukrainian descent—but unlike me, he and his family served in Ukraine as missionaries. He helped start many churches and ministries in Ukraine, and still has friends and contacts there.
Right now Dan is working from neighboring Bulgaria helping pastors and leaders coordinate relief efforts for the tens of thousands of refugees fleeing into the surrounding countries.
The devil wants this to be an ever-increasing disaster. He wants the war to increase and suffering to multiply. But God has an army—and we declare Joel 3:9–10. The mighty men have awakened. We have beat our plowshares into swords. We have learned, “let the weak say ‘I am strong.’” Through His army the Lord will turn this terrible thing into blessing for Ukraine, Russia, Europe, and the world.

Join us for three days of fasting—Many around the world are doing a three-day fast in the time leading up to Passover week, April 15–23. Watchmen for the Nations called for a three-day fast starting from the evening of March 20. Others are using different times. Why fast and why three days?
The three days are because we have just come through Purim (see last week’s update). Esther knew she had to rise up and do something for her people because the sentence had been passed and they would be destroyed. She asked her fellow Jews to fast for three days. They did, and a dire situation was changed into complete victory. That is what God wants to do in the Ukraine situation—or in any dire situation—turn deadly peril into great victory. He needs us to rise up and partner with Him. Fasting is one of those powerful partnerings with Him.
There is much more that happens when we fast, but two significant things are as follows:
Fasting renews and prepares us for the coming anointing. When asked about fasting, Jesus told the disciples, “New wine must be put into new wineskins” (Luke 5:38). Fasting softens and renews us so the Lord can fill us with new wine. There is coming a mighty outpouring to be able to take in the harvest. Let’s not ever overlook the fact that filling of the Holy Spirit is always connected to greatly increased harvest. God wants to fill each one of us anew. Fasting prepares us.
Fasting makes a way for us to successfully transition into the new things the Lord is preparing. We’re living in a time when God is establishing His Kingdom. We will see it manifest more and more. Fasting enables us to make the transition. Ezra called a for fast so they could make a successful journey and not be hindered (Ezra 8:21–23). And when the men of Jabesh Gilead fasted for seven days (1 Sam. 31:13), it helped usher in a new beginning for Israel. God had long prepared David. He was ready. The whole nation was ready, but it was after those men fasted that David actually began to rule.
Now is a time of many new beginnings. These are not just new beginnings for us individually, but also for our nations and the earth. God has prepared His King, Jesus. Now is time for His rule and kingdom to spread like never before. We are getting ready to enter something we’ve never seen. So, prayerfully consider undertaking a three-day fast. It will prepare you, as well as being a part of the new that God is beginning to usher in.
